Black History Month

"For our black history week, the children took part in musical workshops and learnt famous Mandela quotes using body percussion. Children were thoroughly engaged throughout the workshop sessions and there was a real buzz in every class that took part. Funky Fireworks

Boom, sizzle, pop, crackle, squeal, woosh, BANG, are just some of the exciting sounds of fireworks.

Imagine your whole school transformed into a firework display using vocal and body rhythms. 

Pupils also get to create a 'Funky Firework' mini-music video. Those pupils that have permission can share the video with their friends and family on the school website.

The pupils are transformed into astronauts and prepare for a mission to space. 

Through a musical sequence choreographed by Ollie, all pupils create a joint simulation of travel from earth to space. On that dramatic journey, pupils will discover new planets and discover what it's like to adventure through space.

To work together effectively pupils must use positive communication skills, respect one another and work together as a team. These are exactly the same skills needed to help prevent bullying. It gives pupils an opportunity to observe how good their skills are and assess how they can be improved to make their school lives happier.

What goals and targets would you like your pupils to reach this year?

Each year group focus on the the most important social and academic goals they'd like to achieve. The goals are turned into syllable based beats which the groups can rap and play on junk percussion and African drums.

The goals can then be chanted as a class at any time the Teacher wants to reenforce them.

Pupils practice determination and a positive attitude to failure, so that they are more resilient throughout the year.

Pupils will feel more fired up and focused to have their best year yet, guaranteed!

Have you ever seen Greek theatre? If so, you will have seen the way a big group of people would tell a story at the same time, with powerful gestures and voices to fill an amphitheatre. This group were known as the 'chorus.' This is what the pupils will have an opportunity to do.

Through group movement, and vocal dynamics, story telling has never been so exciting.
